| THE PROJECT |
The early detection of cancer is critical to effective treatment and survival. The need for screening is particularly acute for ovarian cancer which is generally asymptomatic until late stages. Towards this goal, we are developing integrated diagnostics for effective label-free detection of ovarian cancer markers based on photonic interactions in nanostructured sensing elements. This project is a collaboration of three research groups with expertise in fluidics (Sinton, UVic Mech), photonics (Gordon, UVic ECE), and chemistry (Brolo, UVic Chem) and with participating organization, the BC Cancer Deeley Research Centre (BCCDRC), and an industrial supporting organization. The project is funded by an NSERC Strategic Projects Grant, and we are actively recruiting graduate students in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering. |
